چکیده
Abstract Seed banks play an important role in determining the spatial and temporal distribution of halophytes salt marshes. We tested ability native Spartina maritima invasive S. densiflora spikelets to disperse by flotation on water with different salinity concentrations, longevity spikelet viability relative environmental conditions including dry or wet storage at low moderate temperatures, aqueous concentrations from fresh sea water. quantified pre-dispersal seed production pre- post-dispersal focal spp. presence along intertidal gradients within marshes Gulf Cádiz (Southwest Iberian Peninsula). spikelets, especially middle high elevation marshes, showed greater than remain afloat, which suggests this species could be dispersed over longer distances. Wet-stored seeds were able maintain for months, while under rapidly lost viability. This decline was most significant , stored temperatures. Storage cold optimized Native did not establish transient persistent banks, established mainly higher marsh elevations. Our results dynamics dispersal seedling recruitment provide fundamental knowledge that can applied conservation management densiflor a, ecological restoration tidal

Seed dispersal by neotropical seed predators.
From a plant's perspective, the difference between a seed predator and a seed disperser should be straightforward: attract animals that will disperse seeds and defend seeds from potential predators. Unlike pulp-eating frugivores, seed predators regularly encounter diverse plant protective mechanisms. The purpose of this paper is to examine feeding constraints, morphological adaptations, and the...
متن کاملSEED DISPERSAL BY RED-RUFFED LEMURS: SEED SIzE, VIABILITY, AND BENEFICIAL EFFECT ON SEEDLING GROwTH
Frugivorous vertebrates play a critical role as seed dispersers of many tropical fruiting plants. In Madagascar, lemurs are the principal dispersers of fruit-bearing plants. This study aims to highlight the potential ecological role of the redruffed lemur (Varecia rubra) in the regeneration of a degraded forest, based on the quantity and size of passed seeds, their viability and germination, an...

Inappropriate storage conditions after harvesting destroy a large part of annual yield partly due to microbial activity in the storage. Damage from storage fungi varies based ...

When Seed Dispersal Matters
A profusion of fruit forms implies that seed dispersal plays a central role in plant ecology, yet the chance that an individual seed will ultimately produce a reproductive adult is low to infinitesimal. Extremely high variance in survival implies that variations in fruit production or transitions from seed to seedling will contribute little to population growth. The hey issue is that variance i...
